Tailored Mentoring

Mentors play a significant role for underrepresented minority students in STEM. I believe that mentorship must be customized to an individual's needs in order to be efficient. I have found documents such as the UMich Rackham Graduate School’s Mentoring Guide to be extremely helpful in my academic career. The Critical Mentoring guidebook by Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan provides great practices for mentors of students belonging to marginalized populations.

Research Internships

Summer internships are important opportunities for students to conduct hands-on research as undergrads. These programs usually pay through a stipend, offer travel support to the research institution, and provide funding to present at a related conference. I've used the Pathways to Science database to find internships.
